The Treatment Action Campaign's objectives are:
- To ensure access to treatment information and to affordable and quality treatment for people with HIV/AIDS
- Prevent and eliminate new HIV infections, and
- Improve the affordability and quality of health-care for all.
The Treatment Action Campaign campaigns for:
- Affordable and good treatment drugs for people living with HIV/AIDS. (We will work with the government and companies which make and sell these drugs).
- Free AZT for pregnant mothers with HIV. (AZT is a drug which reduces the chances of a mother passing HIV to her child by between 35 and 50%. AZT is a cheap and good HIV treatment for pregnant mothers and costs as little as R400 a month).
- The building of a strong social movement for all people living with HIV/AIDS.
- A better and friendly health service for all. People with HIV/AIDS must be treated with dignity and respect in hospitals and clinics.
- No foreign interference with South African drug policy
