Pride is our identity
It may look straight, but our new identity is completely queer. How do you design something representative of queer culture? How do you design one thing to be symbolic of such a diverse group of individuals? Something to represent so many different people?
Gay people. Lesbian womyn. Transvestites. Transsexuals. Asexuals. Bisexuals. Even heterosexuals. How do you design something expressive of sexual differentiation that still reflects the desire for equality sameness. How do you design something that looks towards the future when there is so much his/herstory to be remembered the long struggle for social and legal acceptance. No matter what the culture, race, religion or creed of any group in South Africa, inside there is someone struggling for acceptance of their sexual orientation. How do you design something symbolic of that? We did. By concentrating on the one thing that we all have in common. The one thing that we all share: PRIDE. Because no matter what our differences may be, we all have PRIDE. We are who we are with nothing to be ashamed of, nothing to apologise for. Our PRIDE is our identity. PRIDE is your identity. And it cannot be denied. Share your PRIDE. Celebrate your unity. Celebrate PRIDE 2000. |
